I’m appalled to read that Jakim will be issuing a guideline on 1Malaysia. What?!!! Jakim? The last time I checked Jakim stands for Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia. Can someone please enlighten me how does explaining 1Malaysia fall within the responsibilities of Jakim? Does Jakim has nothing else better to do?
Dear Jakim, there are so many things better than you can do besides explaining a slogan that nobody will comprehend or bother to comprehend a few months down the road. Your duty as the highest authority for Islam in this country should be better than clarifying a slogan. In case you really don’t have anything better to do, you should probably look into our mosques. Start organizing interesting programmes at the mosques. The public perception of a mosque is just a place for old retired people to spend time while waiting for God to call them. Yes that is pathetic, but who is to be blamed? Well, you can take part of the blame. The only programmes organized at the mosques and suraus are prayers and lectures — when the mosques could be much much more. Organize interesting stuffs like sporting events, futsal for instance (yes, our mosques have large empty parking lots which could be used as courts to attract youngesters). Or maybe music classes, computer classes or many many things that attracts the youth. During the prophet’s time the mosques was the central of everybody’s lives. This may be a one good way to attract youths to mosques and slowly attract them to Islam — indirectly solving the social problems we are facing these days.
Ok, I have more suggestions for you, but I think this simple one alone will fill your plate enough and you won’t have time to do lame jobs like explaining slogans.
And to our dearly beloved Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib, please stop wasting money on slogans. Your predecessor did exactly that when he came to the helm of the nation with his confusing Islam Hadhari concept. A concept which I believe nobody remembers what it actually means. Now you come with 1Malaysia — intentions maybe good, but the country is in serious need of something more than just a slogan. So please, please I beg you, enough with the slogans, and let’s start working. Our country may be facing one of the direst economic slump in its young history. So we need brains to help boost our economy and let’s not waste our brain cells on thinking of how to promote a slogan which nobody really cares. And please also direct your Ministers to stop on the slogan. Remember, action speaks louder than words.
Please Jakim, please Dato’ Sri.
